The center is giving way, excellence is retreating; and charm recedes hurriedly from Lagos State, like beach waves departing the shore with a desperate hiss. And all that’s left of Lagos city is a darksome portrait of strife and death.
Yes, in the wake of the dreaded virus, Covid-19, peace has deserted the coastal city cum commercial hub.
As you read, Lagos collapses under the deadly weight of wanton armed robberies and insecurity. Lagos has become very attractive to armed robbers and various other miscreants very recently and the consequences are felt in the house- to -house robberies punctuating the city’s peace
Besides these gruesome realities, the emotional trauma and atmosphere of fear that pervades the city in the wake of every armed robbery has turned the city to a graveyard of peace and security.
The return of daredevil armed robbers to the state is no doubt instructive; it reveals the lapses and immaturity of the government in matters pertaining to upholding order and guaranteeing the security of lives, property and businesses in the state.
There have been multiple robberies and looting in the state in the past two weeks after the coronavirus lockdown.
We gathered that the hoodlums identified as members of the ‘One Million Boys’ gang operated at the Aiko Junction of Ogunrombi-Orisumbare Road in Idimu on Monday night where they looted shops and bungled some homes around the Paiko, Ogunrombi and its environs. We also learnt that the robbery operation occurred between 8pm and 10pm.
“The boys operated almost unhindered until some of the few brave youths in the area tried to deter the miscreants that came from Orisumbare to rob in Idimu,” the eyewitness said.
After the incident, the youths formed a vigilante group, making bonfires and erecting all sorts of barricades within the area.
