The year 2015 has no doubt been a great and eventful year for many Nigerians, both home and abroad. The year started off with prophecies from different prominent men of God. These prophecies which have one way or the other manifested has helped shaped or marred Nigeria in 2015.
The recurrent theme for the prophecies by these men of God revolved around the 2015 general election. While others said it will bring about the doom of Nigeria, others said it will be hitch free and Nigeria will remain one. Among the recurrent theme is prophecy of death of prominent Nigerians, the coming back of Ebola, tragedy that will rock the entertainment industry and the fall of Naira.
2015 general election
The Nigeria’s 2015 general election was remarkable the 5th quadrennial election to be in the country since the end of military rule in 1991. The election which was initially scheduled for February 14th was cancelled due to National insecurity, lack of proper distribution of PVC (permanent voter’s card) and to curb Boko Haram insurgency in certain north-eastern States.
The 2015 election which was finally held on March 28th was remarkable because it saw the defeat of an incumbent President by an opposition party; All Progressive Congress (APC), which brought former Head of State, President Buhari back to power as a civilian President.
The 2015 election Campaign and Propaganda
Historically, campaigns are recognize as vital part of electioneering. This is because the message sent across to the electorate during campaign contains the ideas that the candidate wants to share with the voters. This is specifically aimed at getting those who support the ideas to vote them in.
However, the 2015 election came with rigorous campaign and deep rooted propaganda that was carried out in several social media platform and on national newspaper, including T.V stations. It saw more of hateful speeches, image tarnishing and humiliation of public figure by the parties involved.
The President before winning the election, during the campaign endured several humiliating comment and post by top political figures who never wanted his emergence as the president of Nigeria as well as other political figures who were humiliated as a result of whom they supported.
Ex-minister shames fatherhood…causes drama at INEC collation center
In what seem to be a shameful display from the ex-minister and statesman, Godswill Orube of the PDP, the former minister however smudged his image and name to the mud and this shameful act will be historical as the display was recorded on various national TV.
During the announcement of the 2015 general election at the INEC collation center, the former minister displayed a show of shame by disrupting the announcement of the result.
Shouting on top of his voice and calling the INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega some unprintable names, Orubebe, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, alleged Jega of taking sides in the election. He said Jega is showing support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“You sent a committee to Rivers to probe what happened there. We submitted petitions to you about Kano, Jigawa, Katsina but you have not done anything about our complaints. You cannot continue with these results; we will not take it,” Orubebe said.
When the INEC Chairman attempted to continue with the announcement of the results, the former Minister shouted him down and said, “Mr. Jega, You cannot continue, go to your office.” Reacting to his allegations, a calm Jega rebuked Orubebe for his public conduct as a former Minister and denied giving the election results to the APC.
Two Helicopter Crash
The two helicopter crash that rocked Nigeria was the most tragic happening that saw the life of many especially the life of Peter Bello, a young and futuristic pilot.
The first recorded helicopter crash, Bristow Helicopter Sikorsky S-76 which conveyed 12 passengers crash at the Lagos lagoon on the 12th, August 2015 leaving 6 dead and the other 6 survivors who suffered trauma.
The second recorded crash in Nigeria, 2015 was the Air force plane which killed all passengers and crew on board.
The Dornier-228 aircraft crash into a house at Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna on the 29th, August 2015 few days after the Bristow Crash in Lagos.
Fuel Scarcity
Although fuel scarcity has always been a norm in Nigeria, but the fuel scarcity that rocked Nigeria in 2015 was recorded as the most tragic of its occurrence over the years.
The 2015 fuel scarcity has brought lots of hardship on majority Nigerians causing slowdown in production and services.
Earlier in the year, fuel scarcity prompted financial institutions and other organisation to shut down for lack of petroleum product to run their business.
The price of fuel raised to N250 per litre in some part of the country with many selling black market fuel mixed with diesel, engine oil or as some said, mixed with water to gain more, thereby perpetrating evil.
Pressure on Naira
Just like many men of God prophesied in the beginning of the year, the pressure on Naira has continued to increase.
The naira on Wednesday continued to depreciate at the parallel market as it exchanged for N249 to the dollar.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the naira lost N1 on Wednesday afternoon to close at N249, as against its previous value of N248.
The more the inflation on Naira, the more the economy continues to depreciate and hard times continues to rock Nigeria.
Biafra Protest and quest for division
Since the beginning of the year, there have been mass protests by Igbos in South-East Nigeria for an independent country of Biafra. The protests have sometimes gone violent with reported deaths of about six people, allegedly at the hands of security officials
The protests got worse following the arrest and prosecution of Nnamdi Kanu, the promoter of Radio Biafra, a pirate radio the Nigerian government accuses of spreading hate and violence.
The agitation by the Biafrian was however learnt to be on hold as they prepare to dialogue with the FG over the continuous detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the director of Radio Biafra.

Probe, Treasury looting and Fund Misappropriation
Probe, treasury looting and fund misappropriation are events that rocked Nigeria in 2015.
Since Buhari assumption in office, the former office holder in the former administration have not had it soft. The present government keeps uncovering looters, while the anti-graft agency suddenly became effective in probing and arresting offenders in these categories.
The 2015 has also seen looters who after they were caught claimed to have cancer and other ailment. Like Diezani Alison-Madueke, Kingsley Kuku and former EFCC boss, Lamorde.
