Newly appointed Technical Adviser of the Nigeria senior national team, Genort Rohr says fixing up the defence line of the Super Eagles is his main priority ahead of the World Cup 2018 qualifiers which begins in October.
The German will arrive Nigeria on Sunday ahead of Nigeria’s dead rubber AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Tanzania in Uyo on the 3rd of September, but the former Niger and Mali coach already has his eyes on the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria is in group B alongside Zambia, Cameroon and Algeria and Rohr believes fixing up the defence of the Super Eagles is key to their aspirations of qualifying for the World Cup in Russia.
Rohr made this known in an exclusive interview with Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana from his base in France.
” We’ve got a lot of work to do to get Super Eagles ready for the World Cup qualifuers. If the Nigerian team is to effectively compete, it must have a good defence. We are certainly going to work on that area” He told Obayiuwana.
” I watched the Olympic team and was very impressed by their performance, in spite of the initial problems. I will be watching league matches across Nigeria to search for talent, in addition to using players in Europe”.
