National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has emphasized the authority of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) concerning the declaration of primary election results.
In a recent interview with a national television station, Yilwatda clarified that state chapters and electoral committees do not possess the power to declare these results.
Instead, he stated that only the NWC is authorized to ratify and officially announce the outcomes of the primary elections.
He said all results from the primaries conducted across the country must be transmitted to the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, where the NWC will carry out final verification before any winner is officially recognized.
“States cannot announce winners until the NWC gives its verdict,” stressing that the party’s constitution and internal guidelines place the final authority for primary election declarations on the national leadership.
His directive has nullified several results already announced by state chapters and local collation committees following the recently concluded primaries.
