The management of W FM 91.7 organized a press conference that held at the Arepo premises of the radio station, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The chairman of the company, Dr. Babatunde reiterated that the radio is the first gender based radio station in Nigeria. He said the station is dedicated to raising awareness on issues related to women and their families.
According to the management, the radio station is aimed at inspiring women of all ages, advocating for them and also helping women to develop in their various fields and endeavours. The radio station has a vision to support the women and give them a platform.
The Managing Director, Toun Soneye, says: “We discovered that only 17% of radio shows in Nigeria are target at women; that is why we decided to pioneer this station, to be the voice of the housewife, the 13 year old girl who was abused and to also reach the cooperate woman in the society”.
“We are not feminists. Our programs are everyday programs but specifically for women. W FM has the target to break the silence culture. Women don’t like to talk. We have programs for every woman irrespective of her social and cultural background” she said.
The station can proudly boast of having one of the best broadcasting equipments in Nigeria. According to the chairman, Dr Babatunde, he said: “We have the best equipment to serve you better. We have systems from Clyde Synergy from the UK and we are soundproofed by one of the best in the country”.
W FM, which will be fully launched on air on The 14th of December, has started test running to serve you best.
