SDP Faction Laments Duke’s Supreme Court Victory

The faction of the Social Democratic Party loyal to a presidential aspirant of the party, Prof Jerry Gana, has said  its  loyalists are  mourning following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of the Court of Appeal judgment declaring Donald Duke as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the SDP, Mr Alfa Mohammed, in an interview with our correspondent,  said  the Gana faction had no other option but to respect the verdict of the apex  court.  Mohammed, who  was  suspended by the National Executive Committee of the party last month for alleged anti-party activities, said  Gana’s loyalists would take a decision after a stakeholders’ meeting.

He said, “We are mourning. As  loyal stakeholders of the SDP, we are still in mourning mood  because we were denied participation. A small group among us caused  this problem.

“We had Jerry Gana, who  announced  his intention to contest  the presidential ticket of the party.

“Suddenly, just about a month or so to the primary, people just brought somebody  who never contributed anything to the party  from nowhere.  Before we knew it, they said, ‘he is the candidate.’ At the end of the day, the man never participated in the election.
