The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, announced that the current governor of Abia State, Alex Otti would be the last candidate to be elected from the Labour Party.
In a video that is making rounds on social media, Kalu expressed his confidence in the All-Progressives Congress (APC), his party, and its future prospects in Abia state.
Kalu declared, “This will be the last time that a Labour governor will govern Abia State. I say it without mincing words. The next governor of Abia State will be an APC governor.” …CONTINUE READING
Although Kalu, who is also the representative for Bende Federal Constituency, lauded the performance of the incumbent governor, Alex Otti, he argued that Abia State’s future governance should align with the APC. He highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s significant contributions to Abia state as a key reason for this shift.
Kalu expressed confidence that this transition would occur in Abia state, despite not knowing the exact details of how it will unfold. He attributed his optimism to the efforts of both his government and President Tinubu, noting that Abia State would benefit from the President’s support and initiatives, such as the Southeast Development Commission.
“I have told him publicly and privately that the APC governor will be next in Abia State. How it will happen, I don’t know, but it will happen.” Kalu said
”I am confident because my government is working hard, the President is working hard, and Abia will repay the president. The president that has given you the South East Development Commission will be repaid.
“We are not ungrateful people,” Kalu said. “Monkey will not work, and baboon chop. APC will not help the state to be strong, and Labour will take the credit.” He also emphasized that he could not continue as the sixth citizen of Nigeria while another party governed his home state, asserting that the 2027 elections would mark a new era in Abia state.
“APC will determine who will become the next governor of Abia State. I don’t care about who the person is. However, one thing I know is that the platform, APC, will be the next governor of Abia state.” Kalu said
Alex Otti, a former banker, became the only elected Governor under the Labour party in 2023, having won the 2023 Abia general elections with 172,246 votes, defeating the PDP’s Mr. Ahiwe, who received 78,628 votes.
