Mahdi Shehu, a public affairs commentator, has commended a yet-to-be-named pastor for rejecting a ₦30 million donation allegedly offered by the governor of Kebbi state.

In a post on X on Thursday, Shehu described the money as a “Greek gift” and likened it to “blood money,” citing Matthew 27:6 to suggest that it was unfit for spiritual or moral use.

“The pastor was well guided by the Spirit of truth to reject the ‘Greek gift’, fully aware that it was blood money,” he wrote….CONTINUE READING

Quoting scripture, he added: “And the chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the treasury since it is the price of blood.”

Shehu mocked those who might have accepted similar gifts, accusing unnamed supporters of the governor of justifying such gestures with religious interpretations.

He wrote: “The governor is free to offer it to distributors, wholesalers, retailers and ever-willing Muslim-Muslim ticket peddlers.

“They will collect and pray for him, holding their beards, shaking their heads and holding their turbans as a sign of humility.”

He alleged that some would go as far as misinterpreting verses from the Qur’an to rationalise the donation, describing the entire episode as disgraceful.

“Shame on the Kebbi,” he wrote in conclusion.
