• As preparation for Africa’s headline fashion show intensifies, organisers seek to outclass 2015 edition of the event
The man who dresses up in stripes in a polka dots year is as lonely as a woman in an undersized dress. With this cultural reality firmly etched in their hearts, fashion buffs within and outside the country have set out to be part of the forthcoming edition of the African Fashion Week in Nigeria (AFWN), an annual event. Tailors, designers, dress retailers and wholesalers are currently engaged in a mad dash to be part of what promises to be the most entertaining, lucrative and instructive fashion event of the year.
Through their feverish hustle to be part of the show, it is easy to see that aspiring participants at this year’s edition do not subscribe to the tendency to see fashion as a mere contrivance, a dreamer’s escape to fantasy. Rather they consider it as an effective means to transform and influence reality.
This year’s edition of the fashion show promises to be grand. It is billed to showcase the works of fashion genii with an impeccable taste for class, order and excellence. The event, according to fashion enthusiasts who were at the last year’s edition of the show, will offer a treasure trove of brilliance, infinite chic and entrepreneurial opportunities for aspiring and seasoned fashion buffs.
To this end, the organisers of the show are doing all within their power and with all the available resources at their disposal to deliver another memorable event.
The 2015 edition was greatly applauded by fashion enthusiasts from far and wide. Many of them trooped to the show expecting to be dazzled and they were not disappointed.
None had seen such a magnificent stage and catwalk for a fashion like what the AFWN displayed in 2015. Hype meshed with action at the event as guests and participants at the event marveled at the amazing medley of craftsmanship and elegance that was displayed by the participants.
It is for this reason that expectations are high for the 2016 edition of the show. Already, the organisers are working hard to make sure, the upcoming edition outclasses the 2015 edition.
The gala for the 2016 AFWN will set the standard by which all fashion shows in Nigeria would be judged afterwards. The super creative designers have been lined up and they have been mandated to deliver a showcase that would impress all. The headline designer, Ade Bakare, is already working to deliver a stunning new collection. Likewise other supporting acts. It is billed to be a very grand show judging by the spate of preparations for the event. Part of the gala would be a very colourful awards ceremony that would feature four very prominent personalities.
