Ambition is the grand enemy of all tact. It has reduced many a minion to the rank of contemptible vermin even as it transforms the noble into hideous phantoms with an appetite for insatiable hunger. Were Alex Otti conscious of this undeniable facts, he would temper his quest for power with restraint. Had he known, the former Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank would have thought twice before opting to resign as GMD of the bank in pursuit of his political ambition. The former GMD/CEO of Diamond tenure at the bank has been described as “the brightest years of Diamond Bank’s 24 year-history.” On the wings of such complimentary reviews, Otti yearns to replicate his sterling achievements in politics too; he desires to become governor of Abia State and his hankering for power has devolved into desperation or sort.
Otti, who purportedly succumbed to pressure to engage in politics, from well-meaning associates and friends, believes that he has the power to rescue the State from the doldrums of decay. And to actualise his ambition, he contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but he was later dropped. Promptly, his presumed supporters abandoned him to go underground. Unable to take the hint, Otti sought solace in the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) where he was dropped again by the APGA Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, although he was later reinstated as the party’s flagbearer.
Recently, Otti’s ambition tore the Ngwa Monarchy apart in Abia State, over the controversial issue on his town of origin in Abia State. Fresh news has emerged that the Abia State APGA Gubernatorial candidate escaped death by the whiskers as opposition political thugs sought his head during a meeting with his supporters at Ndioru Village in Ikwuano LGA; there they attacked and injured his supporters with guns, machetes and stones. They also vandalized some cars in his convoy. Speculation is rife that the attack was in retaliation after an innocent Abian, Frank Dickson was shot by an APGA armed guard previously at Umuojiocha Village Square, Oboro in Ikwuano LGA. Despite the danger and sordid intrigues generated by his governorship ambition, Otti remains adamant in his quest to govern Abia; he is purportedly driven by the need to keep politics pure as a motive of doing good for ones country and his people – let’s hope he does not get lost in the country’s wilderness and mazes of political brigandage.
