In a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and read during Tuesday’s plenary session, President Tinubu formally requested the Senate to confirm three individuals as ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The letter, presented by Akpabio, identified the nominees as Dr. Jamila Bio, Balarebe Abbas, and Olawale Olawande. President Tinubu nominated Abbas to replace Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, who had not been screened and cleared by the Senate due to security concerns.
It’s worth noting that on September 17, President Tinubu had already appointed Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim as the Minister of Youth, pending her confirmation by the Senate. Additionally, he had approved the nomination of Olawale Olawande as the Minister of State for Youth.
Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, disclosed these appointments in a statement, describing Dr.
Jamila Bio Ibrahim as a “young medical doctor” who had previously served as the President of the Progressive Young Women Forum (PYWF) and as the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The statement also noted that Mr. Ayodele Olawande, nominated as the Minister of State for Youth, is a community development expert and a youth leader in the All Progressives Congress (APC). He had previously served in the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Innovation from 2019 to 2023.
