Micro Blogging site Twitter has removed all free verified badges from its platform.
Legacy or free badges are those that were verified before the introduction of Twitter Blue by Elon Musk, the new owner of the platform.
Checks by The Nation showed that top personalities, celebrities, influencers, journalists, and others formerly verified without a subscription to Twitter had all lost their verifications.
Further checks also reveal that organisations, governments and other top government officials’ accounts with Gold and Grey badges were not removed.
Twitter owner Elon Musk last week announced April 20 as the final date to remove Legacy verified Twitter accounts.
Before Musk acquired the micro-blogging platform, verified Twitter users do not pay to get verified or pay for a monthly subscription to renew their verifications.
