Contrary to the wild speculations and rumours making the rounds that Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives who was until now Chairman, Committee on Appropriations of the House was sacked as the head of the committee by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the truth has emerged that the notable lawmaker, Jibrin voluntarily stepped down from the position.
To set the records straight, Jibrin, an APC legislator who is representing Bebeji/Kiru federal constituency of Kano in the National Assembly, has published a statement in which he stated that he had taken the decision to leave the post in the best interest of Nigeria and for peace to reign.
Below is the full text of the statement written by Jibrin.
“Today, I stepped down as the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation. This was done in the best interest of the House and the country at large, in order to let peace reign.
It has been a rare privilege to serve first as the Chairman House Committee on Finance and until now as Chairman of the Appropriation Committee.
I would love to express my profound appreciation to the Speaker of the House, Hon. Yakubu Dogara and my colleagues in the House of Representatives. As usual, certain elements in the media have made my personal decision to step down as Chairman a narrative of being sacked based on the illusions of their creation. I am glad that the Speaker made it clear this was my decision.
I humbly call on my friends and responsible media platforms to allow me some peace at this time and not give in to the noise and propaganda that is bound to follow this announcement.
I will also use this opportunity to congratulate the new Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, Hon. Mustapha Dawaki.
I will continue to serve my people and our country in my capacity as a member of the House of Representatives and will continue to support its leadership, in the collective interest of our country and its people”.
