The Chairman of Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Organization (GAFAMORG), Ayodele Akele, has declared that President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has failed and disappointed the entire population of Nigeria by condemning them to total suffering.
Mr. Akele made the statement during the 7th annual memorial rally organized by the Non-Governmental Organization, GAFAMORG, to remember the deatb of Abdul-Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi, popularly known as Gani Fawehinmi. The 7th memorial rally, which was led by the Chairman of GAFAMORG, took off from Ikeja to the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos.
Speaking at the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Mr. Akele insisted that the leadership of President Buhari is a total letdown as he has neglected the people that voted him to power. He said, “we the flag bearers and school of thought of Gani Fawehinmi want to reiterate again that this government coming to power over one year ago is a total failure.”
He continued by saying that the President has disregarded his campaign promises of making life easy for the people and that his government is characterized by hunger, poverty, misery, and hike in price of goods. “We were promised low cost housing but what we have is 2 million naira houses, we were promised massive employment but what exist is job massacre, unavailability of electricity for the people and plans of refineries is no more realistic.”
Speaking further, Mr. Alake questioned the President’s decision of borrowing money from foreign countries and urged him to step aside if he cannot find solution to the problems facing the country.
“Where is the money received from the looters? Why do we have to borrow from other countries when billions of naira is being recovered from looters and the President is wasting the borrowed money? There are so many anomalies in this country. This country is corrupt and corruption in this country is more in this regime than previous regime. The government should step aside if they cannot deliver the country.”
He concluded by stating strongly that Gani Fawehinmi will not be forgotten as his memory will continue to live in the heart of many Nigerians and if Gani Fawehinmi is still alive, Nigeria will not be as bad as it is under this present leadership.
Also addressing those present at the rally, Dr. Joe Odumakine qualified Gani Fawehinmi as a dogged fighter, somebody that displayed uncommon courage and commitment to the democratic struggle.
Speaking further, Dr. Odumakin charged the government to fight corruption in line with the rule of law and should start carrying out actions that will see to the see to the betterment of the masses.
“We support the fight against corruption, and it must be fought within the armpit of the law and in accordance with the law. Enough of the rhetoric, the government should work the talk and the anti-corruption law must be fought with respect for human right.”
