The social media was awash with exchange of salvos and bants between hip hop star, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido and Ovation magazine publisher, Dele Momodu. The two narrated their stories about how the Adeleke family, Davido’s family, were thwarted at Murtala Muhammed Airport by the Immigration officers with a seven months old baby because the mother of the baby, Sophie Momodu (Dele Momodu’s niece and god daughter and also Davido’s baby mama) was not part of the entourage to travel to the UAE on vacation.
From the story narrated by both parties, it was glaring that the two influential families are at war against each other over the child. The Adeleke family wants to take total possession of the baby from her mother who they claimed is addicted to cannabis and marijuana smoking and which has affected the medical condition of the baby. Also, the father of the child, Davido, claimed that he was tricked into having affairs with Sophie who lied to him about her age, that he later discovered that Sophie was far older than him and he was not ready to marry a liar and a club goer.
Judging by the ways the two families’ dirty linens were washed in the open, it is unfortunate and totally negates the African values expected of a well to do families like theirs. Such issue could have been discoursed and settled amicably without the third party hearing about it. Adeleke family belongs to the super rich and respected in Nigeria, while Dele Momodu has carved a niche for himself in the media industry. Dele momodu goofed having started the conversation on instgram thus provoking a rude and disrespectful Davido to splash dirty water of abuses on him in the open.
Also, the story of Sophie as narrated by Davido if found to be true is a pathetic one. African ladies do not force themselves on men, no matter how rich and famous they are, but from Davido’s story, it seemed Sophie was star struck and wanted Davido that she had to lie about her age just to get Davido’s attention. Also, her marijuana and cannabis addiction as claimed by Davido does not represent the value an African lady should possess, especially for a nursing mother.
And lastly to Davido, his disrespectful responses to Dele Momodu’s instagram post shows he has a lot to learn about life. Dele Momodu is respected globally as a professional who has mentored many others to greatness. African value does not approve disrespecting an elderly who has had more experience of life than you. A Yoruba adage says even if one has good cloths more than an elder, one cannot have the rags or used cloths more than an elder. The rags represent the experience an elder has over the young.
Davido should understand that fame does not last long, especially in the competitive music industry. We have seen and heard about super hip pop stars that made the wave but are no more to be found now. New star will surely rise that will send his star to the background, that is the truth about life.
