In fulfilment of his pledge to support every effort of the federal government to combat the corona-virus pandemic, particularly, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN’s Nigerian Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19, Dr Mike Adenuga, the chairman of Globacom Limited, through his MIKE ADENUGA FOUNDATION, has redeemed his N1. 5billion pledge.
We can exclusively reveal that in spite of the limited banking services occasioned by the pandemic, the self-effacing philanthropist ensured that the N1billion hit the CBN’s COVID-19 dedicated account on April 3rd.
Copies of the telex and Sterling Bank letter confirming the payment have been exclusively obtained by The Capital. This puts to rest the sustained social media insinuations and outright attacks on Dr Mike Adenuga, GCON, CHL, that he is dithering on redeeming his pledge.
Earlier, his daughter, Bella Adenuga-Disu, who also serves as executive vice chairman of Globacom, had presented a cheque of N500million to the Lagos State government donated for the same cause. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu received the cheque on behalf of the state government.
Adenuga-Disu stated, “My father, Dr. Mike Adenuga through his foundation is committed to the wellbeing of Nigerian citizens, especially at this time when the country grapples to contain the Coronavirus pandemic. He commends the efforts being made by the government, individuals and organizations to tackle the challenge.”
Stories are told of his greatness and echoes of his humanity are fed like fodder to the masses. In a land dogged by human and infrastructural lapses, the humanity of ‘The Bull’, as many affectionately call him, nourishes the glands of kith and kin even as his genius oils the wheels of industry.
This is why he is perpetually on song, among his clan and league of extraordinary men. He emerges as the perfect symbol of business excellence seen at home and abroad as a historic figure, the personification of a business calculus within Nigeria and the African continent.
Yet, unlike the proverbial warrior who lives to sing the song of his deeds and derring-do, Adenuga remains impressively humble and immune to conceit, treading a rare path to acclaim thus, attracting honour in torrents, from home and abroad.
He is like the mango tree, the more fruits he bears, the lower he bows in humility. For Adenuga, success comes with the weight of humility.
