• Agency is yet to figure out how to invite Emir of Kano for investigation
Following the on going investigation of $2.2billion arms deal scandal involving Dasuki and other high profiled Nigerians, many Nigerians have asked the government to extend its investigation to the former CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido, for allowing such a huge amount of money to be disbursed without him carrying out thorough research on how the money would be spent.
Prior to this, the EFCC recently learned that most of the numerous fund disbursements were carried out under the leadership of Sanusi Lamido, now the Emir of Kano, who was the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
EFCC operatives investigating the arms deal are keen on interrogating the emir, but are not sure on what to do to get the traditional and religious ruler to state what he knows about the numerous disbursements of funds from the CBN to the office of the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, rtd, who has been arraigned for money laundering, breach of public trust and diversion of public funds.
The commission is said to be contemplating on whether to secretly go to him or invite the Emir for questioning on the movements of funds during his tenure as head of CBN and why such disbursements were never questioned or declined by him.
It was reported that a source from the EFCC said they were keen on getting first hand information from the emir in such a way that it would not bring the commission into trouble with any individual or group.
It would be recalled that he became an emir after his removal as CBN governor by the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan for accusing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, of not remitting $20 billion of oil proceeds into the national treasury.
