The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of persecuting Governor Ayo Fayose over its investigation of alleged receipt of arms slush funds and seizure of his assets.
A statement yesterday by its Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, alleged that the EFCC probe of Fayose and his administration has become political, judging by the modus operandi of the anti-graft agency’s investigation.
Accusing the EFCC of using “trial-and-error method of investigation”, the PDP faulted the agency for “suddenly changing gear from investigating N1.2 billion allegedly received by Fayose for his 2014 campaign to seizing his property valued at N1.3 billion and probing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) funds”.
Fayose has sued the EFCC before the Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti to challenge the freezing of his accounts but the case has been adjourned to September 30.
His administration also sued EFCC, ICPC and 17 other defendants at the state high court over an alleged plan to investigate government accounts in some commercial banks.
