The management of Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDP) on Wednesday said it had commenced the replacement of faulty and obsolete meters to consumers within the zone.
Mr Godwin Idemudia, the EKEDP General Manager, Public Affairs Division, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that it had procured 50,000 prepaid meters from local manufacturers for the exercise.
Idemudia assured the consumers within its zone that they would not be billed for the replacement.
He said that it was EKEDP’s responsibility to replace the meters since the fault was not from the consumers.
The general manager appealed to affected customers to exercise patience, adding that the exercise would soon get to their area.
He disclosed that the company had installed about 13,813 smart meters to various consumers in the zone from the beginning of the year till now.
Idemudia urged consumers within the zone that had yet to be given prepaid meters to apply for it under the Credit Advancement Payment Metering Installment (CAPMI) scheme.
He said the meters would be installed within 45 days after the application and payment.
The general manager urged consumers within the network that were having problems of estimated billing to apply for the prepaid meters. (NAN)
