The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State took a swipe at the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the Senator representing Ogun East, Buruji Kasamu , over a petition by the duo alleging bribery of the judiciary by APC.
In a statement signed by its publicity secretary in Ogun State, Sola Lawal, APC warned that assult on the judiciary by the PDP was assuming incendiary proportion such that, if not checked , could compromise the integrity of the institution of justice.
In a separate petitions to the President of Appeal Court, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, both Kasumu and the PDP alleged bias against the state election petition tribunal headed by Justice Ebiorieweoi Tobi alleging a planned bribery of the Appeal Court sitting in Ibadan. Kasamu and his party called for disbandment of the appellate court.
The Tobi-led tribunal, in its October 23 judgment, had ordered fresh polls in 110 units, a decision both parties to the petition appealed with the APC insisting that its candidate, Dapo Abiodun, be declared outright winner of the election while Kasamu and PDP averred that the tribunal erred by voiding result in the 110 units.
However in calling for the disbandment of the Appeal Court in its petition to Justice Bulkachuwa, Kasamu and his party, the PDP, alleged that the sum of 150 million naira has been forwarded to unnamed members of the Appeal Panel to influence judgment in favour of the APC. The PDP petition was signed by Semiu Shodipo, its secretary in Ogun State.
However, the APC pointed out that every strand of credibility of the judiciary had come under sustained attack by the PDP after losing the last general election wondering whether it was not the same judiciary which operated during PDP’s 16- year rule in the country.
APC noted that Kasamu and PDP were only victims of morbid fear having realized the futility of their case against APC while opting for vainglorious self-help to avoid an imminent and sure ignominy in the public space.
“It is to the credit of the crumbling edifice of Kasamu to be economical with the truth to obfuscate its actual plan of clogging the wheel of justice and further desecrate the noble temple of justice through subterfuge and archaic underhand methods”.
“In their confusion, Kasamu and his party with whom impunity sits pretty well have, in futility, embarked on search for a society of Frederick Douglass’ intellectual ingenuity where justice is denied, poverty enforced, ignorance prevailed in which any class is made to feel society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade such that no one or property is safe”, APC stated.
“Neither our party, the APC, nor our candidate in the 2015 Senatorial election in Ogun East, Prince Dapo Abiodun ever engaged in bribery before, during and after the election with any member of the judiciary or anyone for that matter”, APC said.
“Let it be on record for the up teenth time that as a party and individuals our respect and loyalty to the institution of justice in the country would always remain unflinching ” ,the party stated
