• Pressure mounts on Senate President to save childhood friend and business partner from anti-graft agency
The only thing that endures is character. Fame and wealth—all that is illusion. But when a man scorns the subtle nudge of his forelock to seek his fortune in crime, he becomes deterrent for generations unborn. This applies to Mohammed Gobir.
Recently, Gobir was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 17-count charge of stealing, forgery and obtaining by false pretence which amounted to N277,020,000.00(Two Hundred and Seventy-seven Million, Twenty Thousand Naira) fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, arraigned a former Kwara Hotel boss, Mohammad Gobir alongside Mondial Defense Systems Limited before Justice J.E. Oyefeso of the Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja on a five-count-charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and forgery. The accused allegedly converted the money meant for the purchase of security bands for Kwara State government to personal use.
Consequently, his family was thrown in disarray; the situation is particularly traumatising on his wife, Bolanle, who has been running helter-skelter in search of reprieve for her embattled husband.
Since the arrest of Gobir, Bolanle has been scurrying from pillar to post, crying to whoever cares to listen, to come rescue her husband from the claws of the anti-graft agency before they send him to jail.
It was gathered that in an effort to rescue Gobir, Bolanle and Gobir’s friends have reached out to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to help him given their very cordial relationship.
Unknown to many, Saraki and Gobir were childhood friends and business partners. Further information revealed that the Senate President and Gobir are very close, especially during Saraki’s term as the Governor of Kwara State.
According to source, Gobir used to be the Chairman of Kwara Hotel Saraki was the Governor of Kwara State. With the established relationship and ties between the Senate President and Gobir, will he heed the call of distress from his best-friend or will he allow justice prevail and allow his childhood friend rot in jail?
