Under the burden of debt, many a billionaire’s pride tottered and spread like dandelions in full blossom. As chrysanthemums graduate from soft yellow to antique bronze, it glittered captivatingly, emphasizing as it did, that even though Ernest Azudialu, is mired in extreme debt, it will not keep him from marrying off his daughter in grand style.
Thus the Nestoil boss gave out his daughter’s hand in marriage, in a grand wedding ceremony in Okija, Anambra State. It was indeed a big wedding that had so many dignitaries thronging the eastern township.
Even though mischief makers and high society rumour mill had earlier predicted that the Nestoil boss would be unable to rise to the occasion, Ernest shamed them all as he threw a spectacular wedding celebration in honour of his beloved daughter and her groom. He proved his critics wrong and gallantly showed that his indebtedness to the banks does not mean that his life would not go on.
More importantly, it does not mean he wouldn’t be able to muster capital and other resources to marry his daughter off with pomp and grandeur. The ceremony which attracted the crème of the country’s high society served as a treat for every guest and the couple in particular, as it manifested as a worthy end to a promising courtship and a perfect beginning to what their friends and family hope will be a fruitful union.
Due to declining fortunes, Ernest no longer flies a private jet. He flies commercial planes now. His private jet has been taken away from him due to paucity of fund. As if that was not enough, Julius Berger, his preferred construction firm, has moved out of his site which is beside Folorunsho Alakija’s house in Ikoyi. Ernest’s current plunge down the ladder of wealth and acclaim no doubt contrasts negatively with his rising profile of yesteryears
