No fewer than four persons were reportedly shot on Thursday in Ilorin, Kwara State, during the visit of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was on a door-to-door campaign in the ancient city.
Security sources told our correspondents that the incident occurred in Isale Aluko area of the metropolis.
Two of the injured persons were identified as one Ahmadu and an elderly man called Baba Tunde.
It was gathered that Baba Tunde was going to the mosque around 4pm when he was hit in the leg by a stray bullet.
A resident, who gave his name only as Sodiq, said, “The vice president visited some communities in Ilorin today (Thursday). Around 4pm, he arrived at Isale Aluko. He walked from Ita Ogunbo Junction to Isale Aluko with party supporters heading for Mustapha Compound.
“Suddenly, we heard two loud sounds in quick succession. Bullets hit four persons in the legs, including a girl and an elderly man called Baba Tunde. We don’t know who fired the shots yet.
“Isale Aluko and the entire Alanamu Ward are competing grounds for the APC and the PDP. We want adequate security on Saturday so that there won’t be any breach of the peace,” he added.
The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident to one of our correspondents, adding that he had yet to be properly briefed on the incident.
