Eight former local government area chairmen in Edo State have switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in anticipation of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
These former chairmen, including John Osi Akhigbe, formerly of Etsako Central Local Government; Hon (Engr) Dr Josie Ogedegbe, previously of Igueben; Hon Frank Ilaboya, who chaired Owan West; Hon Andrew Osigwe, who led Owan East; Hon Napoleon Agbama, from Uhunmwonde; Scott Ogbemudia, from Ovia North East; Hon Austin Okoibhole, from Esan North East; and Hon Mrs. Ruth Osahor, who headed Esan West, have vowed to actively support the APC and work towards its victory in the September 4, 2024 election.
These former chairmen had initially been members of the APC but had defected to the PDP alongside Governor Godwin Obaseki in 2020. They were formally received back into the APC fold at the Benin residence of the party’s leader, Sen Adams Oshiomhole.
Also present were the APC governorship candidate Sen. Monday Okpebholo, his running mate Ry. Hon Dennis Idahosa, and the Acting State Chairman of the party, Emperor Jaret Tenebe.
Oshiomhole, while welcoming them, expressed his delight at their return, likening the APC to a large house capable of accommodating everyone. He emphasized the need for unity within the party, especially in the upcoming election. Oshiomhole praised their decision to rejoin the APC, highlighting their past contributions to governance and expressing optimism about their continued involvement in advancing the party’s agenda in Edo State.
