Across the state, both independent and major marketers’ outlets, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited outlets, all sold above the official N165 per litre price. At most NNPC branded outlets across Lagos metropolis, petrol sold at N175 per litre, N10 above the official government price. Other major marketers’ outlets dispense at N180 per litre while independent marketers outlets sell at between N185 and N200 per litre.
Checks by Our Correspondent showed that the new selling price may continue unabated giving the stark reality now confronting marketers. It was gathered that as at yesterday, petrol sold at an ex depot price of N170 per litre rising from N163 per litre on a day earlier.
A station manager in one of the NNPC stations in Lagos confided in this reporter that until a definite pronouncement is made, nobody can sell petrol at N165 per litre again because even from the depot, it now comes at a higher price. Prior to this scarcity, ex depot price was N148 per litre.
“Let us not deceive ourselves, except a miracle happens, nobody will sell fuel at N165 per litre again because nobody is in business to lose. We don’t get the product at the official price from the depot again. We have to struggle to get supplies and other factors that are unknown to the public have hindered the fuel supply process,” the NNPC station manager, who pleaded not to be mentioned, said.
