The wife of Kano State Governor Prof. Hafsat Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has praised her husband for his achievements in the health sector.
She described Ganduje as an “action governor” and a “man of his words” who always ensures he implements whatever decision he agrees upon.
Hafsat spoke during the 2021 Annual General Meeting of the Kano State chapter of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), which inaugurated her as Grand Patron of the association.
The event, anchored by MWAN President, Dr Rahila Mukhtar and founder/inaugural President, Prof. Hadiza Galadanci, was held at Africa House of the State House, Kano, at the weekend.
The governor’s wife stated that her husband, since his days as Deputy Governor, had taken the health sector very seriously while working for the eradication of polio.
“Our governor is an action one and a man of his words,” she said.
Professor Ganduje disclosed that the Kano State Governor has allocated 50 per cent of the state’s resources to the health sector in the annual budget, instead of the normal less than 50 per cent requirement, because of his priority in health.
She revealed that during World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) and Maternal New-Born and Child Health Week (MNCHW) Ganduje emphasised that there should be deworming of children with the application of Vitamin A to boost their immunity.
“Our governor has established the Primary Health Institution Management Agency (PHIMA) and the Kano State Contributory Health care Management Agency (KASCHMA).
“Our governor has also established the Kano State Health care Trust Fund where a certain amount of money (five per cent) is dedicated monthly to help us,” she said.
Professor Ganduje also praised her husband for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
In a related development, Prof. Ganduje has been honoured by the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) for her philanthropy and achievements in humanitarian services.
The event followed the 2021 Annual General Meeting of MWAN, which was marked by several activities, including lecture presentation and ceremonial dressing of the association’s founder and inaugural president, Professor Hadiza Galadanci and the governor’s wife.
Speaking during the event at Meena and Government House, MWAN President, Dr Rahila Mukhtar said MWAN is an organisation for Nigerian female medical and dental practitioners with the vision to improve and maintain quality health in the country.
