It is a little over a year since Kennedy Uzoka resumed as the substantive group managing director of financial institution, UBA. In that short space of time, he has affected a number of lives, notably, Ojukwu Onwuzulike, the MD/CEO of Wardrobes, high-end clothier with offices in Lagos and Abuja.
In his heydays, OJ Wardrobes, as he was jocularly called by close friends, was the go-to guy for top-of-the-range executive and casual shirts and other fashion accessories. The services he provides made him a friend of many top bankers, the jet set and rich businessmen. He rolled in rich circles and lived a faux rich life that his business could hardly sustain.
Some years back, business went south for the dandy man-about-town like it did for some other clothiers in the Awolowo, Ikoyi, axis. To save face, he moved to Abuja and kept a correspondingly low profile. Then, Uzoka, one of Wardrobes’ longstanding customers, got the big one! And the path to financial rehabilitation was set for Ojukwu.
For the past one year, he has been making the uniforms and bespoke shirts for all staff of the bank across the country. As if Kennedy’s intervention wasn’t enough, Nnamdi Okonkwo, Fidelity Bank MD and a friend and customer from yore, gave him the same brief. And the good times have rolled in big time for Ojukwu.
To underscore this, he recently gifted himself the ‘breathtakingly expensive and hugely powerful’ Mercedes G63 AMG, which even the makers describe as not being for the introverted. Everywhere he goes these days, he makes a song and a dance of how his two bank MD-friends have given him a new lease of life. Pray, who wouldn’t?
