No doubt Governor Fayose wants his government to carry along every citizen of Ekiti State, irrespective of their social strata. He has said he will gladly appoint illiterates such as Okada riders, farmers into his cabinet without looking back because they voted massively for him which in turn made him a governor today. According to him, not being educated does not make them less intelligent.
The actions of the governor sometimes seem laudable and laughable as he has been pictured in different areas of the State with market women. Recently, the governor was bombarded with torrents of criticism for being pictured with a young hawker that should be in class room.
Yesterday, the controversial governor again revealed that he drove trucks before he was elected as the Governor of the State. In a message posted on Twitter, Fayose charged people to be proud of their professions.
“We must be proud of our profession. I sell trucks, I did haulage, I can drive this truck to Lagos. I did this before I became governor,” he wrote.
Last year, he told members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in his state that he was once a commercial driver.
“I was once a driver like you. I used the money I got from driving to sponsor myself for HND at Ibadan Polytechnic. Being a driver, you can make it in life. You will become what you want to become in life through hard work,” he had said.
“Don’t join evil gang for you to get rich overnight. Though I am part of you, if you breach the law, I won’t spare you. I don’t want to be the enemies of drivers; I want to be your friend.”
Despite the fact that he is trying to be a lovable governor by reaching out to the people at the grassroots, could Governor Ayo Fayose be overdoing all this? Because others are beginning to see him more as a lousy thug who was voted by mistake rather than a leader to emulate.
More so, rather than being a leader worthy of emulation, he influences and gives more strength to the growth of thuggish behaviour in the State according to a source.
