There is little difference between many Nigerian pastors and social butterflies. Besides tripping over one another in their mad scramble for the spotlight, most of them spend their time seeking invitations to social functions, playing golf with the filthy rich, celebrating jubilees, acquiring expensive cars among other choice property and reading the death notices in desperation, in case they can’t find a lavish funeral to attend. Besides this fascinating preferences, a few pastors have perfected the art of throwing lavish parties like nightclub managers. These later band of Nigerian pastors sure know how to have fun.
They know how to rock. Thus the impulse for acquisition, pursuit of gain and money which has nothing to do with spiritualism. Rather it has everything to do with capitalism. One may say that it has been common to all sorts and conditions of men at all times and in all cultures of the earth. Hence the fascination it presents to several Nigerian pastors. It is an open secret that Nigerian pastors are done waiting for their rewards in heaven. As you read, they engage in a mad, desperate hustle for earthly rewards. Little wonder they drive the best cars and private jets even as too many of their congregation wallow in abject poverty.
In his frantic bid to go with the trend, the General Overseer (GO) of Christ Royal Family Int’l Church, Bishop Dr. Tom Samson, has added a Rolls Royce Phantom to his fleet of personal automobiles. He received the luxury car as a birthday gift on Sunday, March 27. The customized 2014 model of the luxury machine was presented to him as a gift by his ‘flock’ as he celebrated his 50th birthday. The presentation was allegedly done by the anniversary’s organizing committee in appreciation of his impact in their lives. The pastor now wears a very wide grin whenever he poses with the machine. Who wouldn’t.
