Report has it that the senate president, BukolaSaraki has taken delivery of new exotic cars purchased for him as his official cars by the management of National Assembly. This is coming after recent calls by Nigerians for government to patronize made in Nigeria product and also to embrace frugality in spending, going by the current economic crisis hitting the nation.
The National Assembly had budgeted about N4.7 billion on at least 400 exotic vehicles for leaders and members of the Senate and House of Representatives. Among the proposed vehicles were 10 top-of-the-range cars for Mr. Saraki and his official convoy.
The budget amount triggered outcry from ordinary Nigerians and stakeholders, urging the Senate to back down on spending such stupendous amount on exotic cars when many of them can comfortably afford to buy such cars from their private funds. But it seems the outcry went the deaf ear of the Senate with the recent delivery.
The exotic cars recently purchased – four of them – are worth N329, 515,625, an amount more than the budgetary allocations for many government schools. The delivery was made by popular car merchant, LanreShittu motors.
