After ten years in court, the fate of Pastor Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, popularly known as Rev King, has been decided today at the Supreme Court and he is to die by hanging. This was done in a unanimous judgment on Friday afternoon, a seven-man panel of Justices of the apex court led by Justice Walter Onnoghen, upheld the death sentence that was earlier handed to Ezeugo by the Lagos State High Court.
In September2006, the pastor was accused of murder and attempted murder after he set seven members of his church on fire while one of them lost her life after 11 days in critical condition. He pleaded not guilty to the allegation but was sentenced to death by the then Justice Joseph Oyewole of the Lagos state high court, Ikeja, on January 11, 2007.
He had challenged the verdict before the court of appeal in Lagos, but the appeal was thrown out by Justice Fatimo Akinbami before heading to the Supreme court
