The aftermath of Audu’s death has been marked by chaos in APC and kogi state as a whole. Capt. Idris Wada, the incumbent governor, requested to be declared winner of the November 21 gubernatorial election. Wada has gone to court to seek a declaration that he should be declared winner after the demise of Audu. He wants INEC to issue him Certificate of Return.
The APC has failed to reach a common ground in choosing who becomes the party’s flag bearer for the coming supplementary election on December 5. While the party went for Yahaya Bello, Faleke, the running mate of Audu, is claiming that he should automatically become the flag bearer.
The emergence of Yahaya Bello has sparked controversies in the party. A fraction of the party believe he didn’t contribute to the growth of the party and also see him as an outsider who is coming to reap where he did not sow. They claim Yahaya Bello was imposed on them.
Another fraction of the party stood firm for Faleke/Muhammed Audu. They believe he is with the peoples mandate. They believe his pairing with late Abubakar Audu made him a qualified candidate.
APC is scared that the emergence Faleke as the flag bearer of the party would be a huge loss to the party because Faleke is from the minority Yoruba ethnic group in Kogi State.
With less than 7 days to the supplementary election, the party should come together and reach a common ground for the sake of having a peaceful election.
