Achieving academic success in life is not something one gets by fluke or luck but it is something for which combination of skills, timing, and hard work is needed.
Recently, the news of an outstanding Psychology graduate, Ayodele Dada, from the University of Lagos, who had an outstanding 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate which left many wandering if it was genuine or a fiction.
Though Dada admitted that he didn’t start out as an academic genius, his hard work and self-discipline has made him a rare gem today after he broke an age long record of academic success in Nigeria.
The parliament awarded him the rare privilege of admittance to its plenary session. Dada received a standing ovation from the House during plenary in honour of his rare academic feat.
In an exceptional gesture, the House suspended its rules to invite Mr Dada into its hallowed chamber to honour him and commend his remarkable achievement, a tradition usually reserved for visiting presidents and parliamentarians.
While commending the scholar, sponsor of the motion, Femi Gbajabiamila, said the act was a dream come true which should be shown to other Nigerians, while stating that the federal government needed to tap into Dada’s potential.
The House of Representatives’ recognition of his remarkable success may be the start of new era for proper integration of the country’s scholars into positions of note in Nigeria. This is a major issue as many reputable Nigerian experts have been adopted by western countries while the country suffers countless socio-economic problems that could easily be solved by these people.
