A middle-aged man based in Umuahia, Abia state, has reportedly died after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance.
The man, identified as Onoh Chukwuma Richard on Facebook — had on Tuesday put out a post indicating it was his “last day on earth”.
“Today is my last day on earth! I going to meet my maker. Thank you Chima Anyaso, Ikukuoma Abia, Kelvin Jombo Onumah, Ekwueme Ohafia and my friends. My spirit is with you all,” he wrote.
In a follow-up post, Richard shared live footage wherein he remained mute for a few seconds.
Unknown to his followers, he had already ingested the insecticide before sharing the video.
It was gathered that friends of Richard, who learnt of his suicidal post, rushed him to Madonna Hospital, Umuahia where he eventually passed on.
Richard was believed to be an aspiring politician who worked for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia state.
He also referred to himself on Facebook as a “director at Alwayzgood Exchange”.
The young man was, however, said to have had some financial challenges.
One of his friends claimed he lost N2.5 million to betting and lacked the courage to face the people he borrowed money from.
“U had 1m and borrowed 1.5m to play bet, it failed, cuz of the shame from debtors you took your life? Onoh who taught you this?” Obika James Abuchi wrote in the comment section of his post.
Condolences have continued to pour in for Richard via his Facebook page as news of his death spread.
As of the time of this report, Geoffrey Ogbonna, the spokesperson of the Abia state police, had yet to release a statement on the matter.
