The newly elected Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owode, has taken swift action by disbanding an unauthorised coronation committee allegedly formed without his approval.
According to report from Vanguard, in a statement released from Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital, on Wednesday, the monarch made it clear that any future gatherings or activities linked to this committee would be deemed illegal and would not be tolerated.

Titled “Coronation Committee Setup in Oyo Town, Notice of Cease & Desist,” the statement emphasized that any group or activity established without his formal approval would not be recognised. The Alaafin directed all individuals involved in the unauthorised committee to immediately halt any related activities.
He further clarified that the public and the organisers of the unofficial coronation committee should understand that he had neither granted permission nor given his consent. Therefore, all discussions on the matter should cease immediately.
Additionally, the monarch specified that any fundraising efforts for the coronation would be overseen exclusively by the royal family, which would also decide the composition of an official committee if necessary. While acknowledging the good intentions of those involved, he reaffirmed that any coronation-related initiative must first be sanctioned by his office before being made public.
Oba Owode assured the community that the royal family would keep them informed of any future updates regarding contributions or preparations for the coronation.
