The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, is facing criticism for his recent remarks concerning the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Akpabio alleged that Emefiele committed numerous economic offenses during his tenure at the apex bank, implicating him in policies that led to economic turmoil.
During a thanksgiving service held by Senator Barinada Mpigi in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, Akpabio asserted that the Nigerian economy was in disarray upon the Bola Tinubu administration’s arrival, attributing this disorder to actions carried out by Emefiele.
Among the accusations leveled against Emefiele by the Senate President were illegal possession of firearms, unauthorized printing of naira notes, and other actions that purportedly contributed to Nigeria’s economic crisis.
Akpabio sought to reassure Nigerians that the Tinubu government is actively addressing security challenges and striving to improve living standards, urging patience from the populace.
However, Akpabio’s comments elicited strong reactions from some Nigerians, who criticized him for leveling corruption accusations against Emefiele while himself facing similar allegations. Many expressed their discontent on various platforms, highlighting what they perceived as hypocrisy in Akpabio’s stance.
