Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan-designate, declared he was prepared to take on the role of 43rd Olubadan. Oba Olakulehin made this declaration during his first public speech when governor Seyi Makinde’s delegates paid him a visit at his Alalubosa home in Ibadan.
Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN) of the Oyo State Advisory Council conducted the visit as part of the procedure for the governor’s approval.
Everyone in attendance was impressed by Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan-designate, as he spoke with confidence and clarity. He debunked any rumours regarding his health, and they were eager to hear him speak. Oba Olakulehin gave everyone the reassurance that he was well and that he felt God was helping him to succeed as the Olubadan.
Addressing the governor’s delegation, he said, “I am happy and excited to see the delegation from our governor. When I was informed of your visit, I immediately told my Chiefs to join me in welcoming you. I am glad my people are here with me. I am fully ready. I know God is behind me and has chosen me as the next Olubadan. With God’s grace, I will not disappoint you. We will all celebrate this success together. I thank the governor for initiating this visit and look forward to his promised visit.”
Speaking on behalf of the kingmakers, Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe said, “Ibadan has never been destroyed, and it will not be destroyed. We thank the Governor, a true son of Ibadan, and pray he will never be put to shame. Now I can sleep soundly, knowing that our Kabiyesi is hale and hearty.”
