There is no denying it – Ajibola Basiru is the most visible face of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state at press time.
His unrelenting tackling of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke has kept him on the lips of many across the state.

Basiru who served as commissioner in 8 of the 12 years in the two-term government of Rauf Aregbesola has leveraged his background – including that of a former Senator and founding member of the APC – to emerge as the “tormentor-in-chief” of the Adeleke administration by taking it to task over every “misstep”.
Basiru’s added prominence enhanced by his status as the serving National Secretary of the APC has thrown him up as a potential history maker ahead of the next gubernatorial election in Osun state.
Basiru hails from Osogbo which is yet to produce a Governor in Osun state despite being the state capital.
Because of the yeoman’s job he is doing in taking on Adeleke and is government, increasing number of APC members are posturing Basiru as the ideal candidate to square up with him in the next gubernatorial election in Osun state.
This development has made Basiru a person of interest for many within the party – and outside it as “the gists” float around.
Checks revealed that although the posturing of Basiru as the perfect APC candidate for the 2026 Osun gubernatorial election is getting increasing traction, it is also facing a push back from other quarters.
“But as things stand, nothing is sure. There are just talks and talks, what is sure is that the leadership of the party, including Basiru is working hard to unify the party ahead of the next round of elections” according to those in the know.
A founding member of the APC in Osun state, Basiru a former student union leader served as the commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties and Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in each of the two-term of Aregbesola’s government.
He is the immediate past Senator for Osun Central Senatorial District and presently the National Secretary of the APC.
Along with former Governor – now minister – Gboyega Oyetola and ex-Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore, Basiru is one of the three persons firmly in control of the APC in Osun state.
