Charm strikes the sight, but merit wins the soul. Thus no matter how charming the outgoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP),Solomon Arase, was at his appointment, Nigeria would remember him for his diligence or otherwise at his job.
However, President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Ibrahim Kpotun Idris as acting inspector-general of police.
Idris succeeds Solomon Arase, who retired on Tuesday after clocking the mandatory age of 60 years.
The acting IG was in charge of operations at the force headquarters in Abuja.
An indigene of Niger state, Idris obtained a degree in law from the University of Maiduguri. He enlisted in the police as a cadet ASP in 1984 and rose through the ranks.
