Qatari outfit El Jaish have denied that they are in negotiations to sign Emmanuel Emenike from Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
The Turkish media reported during the week that former Ivory Coast manager Sabri Lamouchi, who is the current coach of Doha side El Jaish, had asked the owners of the Qatar Crown Prince Cup champions to sign the former Nigeria striker.
Emenike’s career has been on a downward trajectory ever since he returned to Turkey to don the colours of Istanbul giants Fenerbahce after spending a season at Russian Premier League outfit Spartak Moscow.
After scoring just four goals in 22 appearances, the Yellow Canaries sent him on a season-long loan to Abu Dhabi club Al Ain at the beginning of last season.
But the United Arab Emirates powerhouse ended the South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner’s loan deal following poor run of form – and sent him back to his parent club in Turkey.
The 29-year-old scored nine goals in 15 games, an effort the Arab Gulf League runners-up considered not good enough for a player of his calibre.
West Ham signed Emenike on loan during the January transfer window, with the Premier League club having the option of making the deal permanent.
However, he ended the season without scoring a single Premier League goal for the London side, prompting the Hammers to send him back to Istanbul.
Emenike’s only two goals for the Hammers came in the same game against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup at Ewood Park on February 21.
With Fenerbahce making it clear they have no role for him at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium despite having a year to go on his contract with them, Emenike has been linked with moves with various clubs, with his former Turkish side Karabukspor, Spanish outfit Real Sociedad and El Jaish said to have tabled a bid for the player.
But El Jaish administrator Ismail Ahmad has insisted they have to plans to bring Emenike to the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
“El Jaish management did not enter negotiations with Emmanuel and all rumors are incorrect,” Ahmad said on the club’s official website on Thursday.
“El Jaish currently has four high level professional players including Lucas Mendes, Abdelrazzaq Hamedallah, Sardor Rashidov and Romario. The club management is committed to their contracts and has no intention to replace any of them during the new season”.
