Mustafa Chike-Obi is imperceptible now. He has become like the languid breeze blowing listlessly across withering meadows.
Back when he was a hunk and A-list corporate player, he attracted the loyalists, colleagues and friends as the pollen nectar attracts butterflies to sup from its sweetness.
Then Obi morphed into a haughty hunk of sort, presenting a perfect portrait of the power-drunk who brooked no opposition to his views and was ruthless towards perceived enemies or opposition.
However, his recent loss and fall in estimation from the pedestals of high society offers rather humbling lessons to the once powerful man.
No more is he the cocky character who strutted about the corridors of AMCON in its boom years and no more does he walk about with gargantuan chips on his shoulders.
Beneath the poetic justice or injustice of his sack, there are priceless lesson for Mustafa Chike-Obi to learn about the transience of power and danger of wild vanities. Since his removal as Managing Director (MD), Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), Chike-Obi has been stewing in regret and untold misery. Few months ago, President Muhammadu Buhari sacked Chike-Obi at the heel of cumulative offences allegedly committed by the former MD and his team, administration insiders and former members of the company’s board. Back when he was in office, Chike-Obi reigned supreme, like a Chinese emperor.
Men and women worshiped him, and he exploited his office to advantage. But today, he has gone under and the ex-AMCON boss who was close to former President Goodluck Jonathan among prominent Nigerians is left in the lurch. He is no longer the darling of a fawning media, fortune seekers, lobbyists and billionaire sycophants.
