- The country had not had it this bad for a long time – Ekwunife
Following the on-going fuel scarcity in the country which has resulted to many businesses shutting down operations due to their inability to get fuel and as a result, crippling the economy, the Nigerian Senate has given President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Petroleum, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation and other subordinating agencies, two weeks ultimatum to end the ongoing fuel scarcity across the country.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Downstream, Senator Uche Ekwunife, disclosed this during a meeting with the Ministry of Petroleum and other relevant agencies over the current fuel scarcity being experienced across the country.
Ekwunife said: “We are giving you a target of two weeks. The price discrepancy must stop and we are also mandating the Minister of Petroleum, head of agencies to stop the scarcity within two weeks, the country had not had it this bad for a long time”.
The Managing Director of the Petroleum Pricing Monitoring Company, PPMC, Esther Nnamdi-Ogbuche, also expressed her concern over the issue of fuel scarcity, she said economic saboteurs were behind the scarcity, adding that her agency will not relent, but ensure that the saboteurs will be put out of business.
