Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, a Member of the House of Representatives representing Badagry Federal Constituency, made significant legislative strides today, October 5, 2023, by introducing two pivotal bills on the floor of the National Assembly’s lower chamber.
Hon. Sesi, who also holds the position of Deputy Chairman of Petroleum Resources (Upstream), introduced the Petroleum Industry Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023. This proposed legislation aims to augment the contributions made to the Host Communities Development Trust Fund by each settlor, increasing it from 3% to 10%, among other noteworthy provisions.
Additionally, he presented a bill to amend the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, clearly stipulating that the Governor and Deputy Governors of the apex bank shall refrain from engaging in any form of political activity or seeking election to any political office established under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), while serving in their roles at the Central Bank of Nigeria, among other vital objectives. Both bills have successfully completed their first reading in the national assembly.
