A Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered a Nollywood producer and marketer, Seun Olasunkami Egbegbe, to be remanded in Kirikiri Prison custody for allegedly stealing nine pieces of i-phone.
Egbegbe who is said to be a former boyfriend to actress and social media celebrity Toyin Aimakhu, was arraigned before Magistrate Aje Afunwa on a one-count charge of stealing.
The charge sheet stated, “That you Oluwaseun Olasunkami ‘m’ on 22nd November 2016 at about 0900hrs at 9, Simbiat Abiola Way, Ikeja, in the Ikeja magisterial district did steal 9 i-phone 6s valued N2,400,000 property of one Kaaltex Innovation Consutancy thereby violating section 278 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The filmmaker, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him by the Police prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Imhonwa.
The presiding Magistrate, Aje Afunwa, granted him bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum and ordered him remanded in Kirikiri prison pending when he would perfect his bail conditions.
She adjourned the matter to February 8, 2017, for hearing.
A mild drama, however, played out outside the court as Egbegbe’s sympathisers threatened to beat any journalist who dared to take the pictures of the defendant, leading to the commotion in the court premises.
While journalists waited to take Egbegbe’s picture, his family members in collusion with prison warders, sneaked him out of the court premises through the back door into a waiting prison vehicle.
It took the intervention of the Police and court orderlies, who sent the mob out of the court premises before peace could be restored.
Trouble started for Egbegbe, who Police sources said, had gone to Computer Village and requested to buy some phones from a store.
It was said that while the sales girl was trying to calculate the value of the items Egbegbe requested for, he allegedly bolted from the shop with the phones and tried to board a waiting vehicle.
The salesgirl allegedly raised the alarm which attracted other traders in the market.
Seun was caught and beaten to a pulp before the Police intervened and rescued him.
