The family of sick ovarian cancer patient, Mayowa Ahmed have announced the death of their sister who had been flown to South Africa for surgery.
A family member, Asiwaju Foye, in a series of tweet around 1.23 pm on Sunday afternoon said Mayowa passed away in the early hours of Sunday.
Foye, however, did not disclose whether the unfortunate incident occurred in Nigeria or in the South Africa based hospital.
He tweeted, “By Allah, in whose hands our lives is, Mayowa Ahmed has left us in this world. We pray that Jannat becomes her home #RipMayowa. She tried, we tried but God’s will prevailed #RipMayowa”
Our correspondent who had placed calls and sent text messages to Mayowa’s brother, Ibrahim Ahmed telephone line, could not get any response to confirm the news which broke on social media.
Mayowa , a stage 1V cancer patient, supported by Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu; and Miss Aramide Kasumu, the director of Lifestake Foundation, had launched an online appeal to raise funds for her surgery in an Atlanta-based hospital in the United States.
The campaign was said to have raised over N80m and a separate $100,000 for her but Aimakhu later alleged on social media that the campaign was a scam.
The police after investigating allegations levied by both parties, however, described the controversy as a mere misunderstanding between the parties involved.
The police also lifted the ban on the gofundme account where the funds had been frozen.
Consequently, Mayowa was flown to South Africa for treatment on the 10th of August.
