• How he lost his mother, sister and son in 8 weeks
If Baru, indeed, had one chance to make a wish, he would probably wish the death of his son was a nightmare. Watching him bemoan his fate, you could feel and touch his grief and like someone who has signed out on laughter, the sounds and melody of tumbrels and harps for him have stopped making any meaning for now.
The Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru suffered a horror of sunsets at his prime; consequently, he is torn by grief too early in his life. In less than two months, he lost three most important people in his life.
Mohammed Kawu Baru was an 18-year-old 1st-year Architecture student at American University, Sharjah. He collapsed and died while on University organized hiking exercise in Fujairah on Thursday, leaving his parents in deep mourning because he was an otherwise lively and lovable young man, same with his friends and acquaintances whose outpouring of deep-seated grief has been heart-wrenching. He’s since been buried at the Sharjah Emirates Cemetery. The father, Maikanti Baru, GMD NNPC, accompanied by Ambassador Nura Rimi and hundreds of members of the Nigerian community in UAE, attended the burial.
Last April Barq’s mother, Hajiya Fatima Baru, died in her hometown of Misau in Bauchi State.
Also, his sister recently died while Mr. Baru was preparing to attend the Oil and gas Conference in Houston, Texas.
