• Why no one should believe the rumours
Ambition is the grand enemy of tact. It is eternal adversary to all peace. Bola Tinubu, All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader and two-time governor of Lagos State understands these immutable truths, in theory and from experience.
But mischief makers wouldn’t let him be. As usual they are up to their desperate antics; this time around, they are peddling the rumour of another imposition by the ex-Lagos governor and widely acknowledged godfather of Lagos governor, Akinwumi Ambode.
Rumour has it that Tinubu is set to impose his wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, on Lagos as a deputy governor.
The rabble-rousers are saying that Tinubu has perfected his plans to impose Remi and thereby set in motion, her journey to become Lagos’ first female governor. They condemn his latest plot, accusing him of trying to turn Lagos State into his private property and family heirloom.
However, they also claim that Tinubu has a plan B; if Remi is not accepted as Ambode’s deputy because she is also a Christian like the incumbent governor, plans are allegedly in top gear by Tinubu, to impose Remi’s sister, Lola Akande, as Ambode’s new deputy.
Lola is currently a commissioner in Ambode’s cabinet and the anti-Tinubu movement claims she was deliberately planted in the cabinet to play the role of a mole to Tinubu and his wife.
But while the rumour gathers steam, Tinubu’s apologists argue that there is no merit to the details. According to a very close source to the APC national leader, there are no such moves by Tinubu and the rumours currently doing the round are the figment of the masterminds’ imagination. We believe them.
