ThePAPERS can exclusively report that Some top players in the Super Eagles team are already grumbling with the approach of the newly appointed coach, Fimidi George, over selection and tactical approach.
Top players in the team who preferred to remain anonymous reveal that the coach approach is not suitable for them and this could be a major cause of losing the 2026 World Cup ticket.
“I think he has temper issues, and he doesn’t want suggestions, he can’t bring 1994 approach to 2024, football has changed and he needs diplomacy in his approach to some players,” a player told ThePAPERS. …CONTINUE READING
“Obviously, he doesn’t want some players in the team again not because they are old or not good but because he feels he can bring his own players but this is too early for a coach to be experimenting with a winning team,” another player said.
“World Cup ticket is not in our hands, let the coach do the right thing, we will be there to give our best, we are all professionals, we are not home base players that will be shivering,” a striker angrily said.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria, on Monday, were defeated 2-1 by Benin Republic in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
Nigeria lost the second half despite the introduction of Victor Boniface, Paul Onuachu, and Ibrahim Olawoyin, among others. Nigeria was unable to equalise.
Head coach Finidi George, named Terem Moffi and Ademola Lookman to spearhead the attack, while Boniface was placed on the bench.
Meanwhile, the result of this match means that Nigeria is now placed fifth, while the Benin Republic moves up to first place in the six-team table.
Nigeria, in four matches, has drawn three and lost one.
