The Supreme Court in an earth shaking verdict this morning sacked the two remaining senators in the National Assembly from Anambra State.
The apex Court therefore reaffirmed the Anambra state Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) chairmanship of Chief Ejike Oguebego as the authentic executive, hence be related with by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on issues of the last general election.
By the unanimous verdict, the list of nominated party candidates in the last election from the Oguebego-led executive would be the only one to be recognized by the INEC.
The implication is that Chris Uba, John Emeka and Annie Okonkwo are the duly nominated senatorial candidates for Anambra South, Central and North in the March 28, 2015 general election. This has therefore caused what has been described as “political tsunami” as it has swept away Senators Andy Uba, and Stella Oduah.
Others include Anayo Nnebe, Obinna Chidoka, Lynda Ikpeazu, Emeka Anohu, Eucharia Azodo, and Chris Azubogu.
Before now there were palpable fears in Awka on what might happen. Tension had seized both camps until now.
With this development, the scheduled Anambra Central rerun election ordered by the Court of Appeal will lapse as the Court of Appeal had anchored their judgment on the intelligibilityof Iyom Uche Ekwunife’s candidature who now by the decision of the apex court was not the rightful candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Also Senator Annie Okonkwo by this declaration is now the validly nominated candidate of the PDP for Anambra Central Senatorial zone would now be sworn in, in place of Ekwunife. In his reaction to the verdict, Okonkwo commended the Supreme Court for restoring all hopes to reaffirm the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.
