There is something dubious and ill-advised about President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent snub of Lagos governor, Akinwumi Ambode. Buhari’s silent snub resonates like the United States army’s infamous napalm strike against Vietnamese guerilla forces during the bloody Vietnam War, also known as the second Indo-China war. President Buhari might have cancelled the trip to Lagos over an alleged ‘ear infection’ but the pictures and information making the rounds proves that the president indeed had ulterior motives for shunning the invite to Lagos, the same state where he won his presidential primaries.
While he sent Vice President Ayo Osinbajo to represent him at the commissioning of new projects in Lagos, pictures showed Mr. President seated in the villa, entertaining the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun and Mallam Abba Kyari. Mr. President is seen laughing heartily with Amosun and Kyari p- together, they made a great show of their idle banter for the camera. In a nutshell, Buhari was entertaining and gossiping with Amosun while Lagos government commissioned the mega projects that he snubbed.
The actions of the president has shown he placed more priority in having a seat with his colleagues than honouring a visit to Governor Ambode.
Speculations abound that the President cancelled his visit to Lagos after visiting many countries because of the APC national Chairman, Bola Ahmed Tinubu whom he has been avoiding. But why is he avoiding Tinubu? Has their political romance come to an end?
